Meet Janice: new Hope Costumes & Thrift store manager

Janice Thiele is just the kind of person you’d like welcoming you into a store and helping you select just what you’re shopping for. And that’s one of the many reasons why she is the new Hope Costumes & Thrift store manager.

Last month, Janice stepped into the role, bringing nearly 18 years of retail experience, a passion for delivering excellent customer service and a warmth that exudes to both staff and customers alike. Her drive comes from a deep commitment to serving God and others.

“Being able to do both in my work is a dream for me,” she said.

“The Teen Challenge mission really appealed to me for the fact that it’s helping at-risk teens, and that we mentor youth through the store, encouraging them and helping them gain experience.”

It’s only early days for Janice, but already she is enjoying being a part of the hum and buzz of Teen Challenge’s social enterprise store, having input on the store’s future and giving it a little injection of her own style and energy.

“Hope Costumes & Thrift already has an array of tastes for everyone, with some exciting transformations underway, including a tidy-up to make our customers’ shopping experience more enjoyable,” she said.

“I want everyone who comes into the store to feel safe and welcome.”

Janice is looking forward to nurturing a positive team culture amongst the volunteers, youth gaining experience, mentees, and employees through workshops and by simply taking time to have fun together.

When Janice isn’t learning the ropes at Hope Costumes & Thrift, you’ll find her spending time with her three children, family and friends. She loves shopping — obviously! — but she’s a creative at heart and enjoys baking, singing, going to the gym, fishing, fashion and a good Netflix binge. When the AFL’s in town, Janice is there, and she’s even more committed to her church community and serving there. Did we mention she’s a bit of a foodie? Wine, cheese, chocolate and sushi are a few of her favourites, but she’ll also never turn down a good burger!

“Most importantly, my faith is essential and Jesus is my rock,” Janice said.

“I’m so thankful for this opportunity and to have the guidance and leadership of Tanya has been invaluable. Stepping into the new role has been an adventure and a wonderful journey so far. I feel very blessed to be part of it.”

Next time you’re in Launceston’s CBD, drop in to Hope Costumes & Thrift and say “hi” to Janice.
